SUMMARY OF RECENT MAGISTRATES’ COURT CASES

Joshua Brown, 31, residing at Cape Lindsey Road, Newport was ordered to pay a total of £508 comprising a financial penalty, legal costs and an additional surcharge after admitting to driving at excess speed in an area restricted to 30mph. Six penalty points were added to his driving record.

Mitchell White, 36, from Dorset Crescent, Newport was directed to pay £474 including a fine, costs and surcharge after he admitted to travelling at 36mph in a 30mph limit on the A48 close to Cardiff Garden Centre on May 4 the previous year. Three penalty points were recorded on his driving licence.

Ben Carey, 20, of Lilian Grove, Ebbw Vale received a financial order requiring payment of £253 in fines, costs and surcharge following his guilty plea to possessing ketamine and hindering a police officer on September 19 the previous year. The substances were confiscated and destroyed by the court.

Mark Bates, 34, of Malpas Road, Newport was ordered to pay £1,044 consisting of a financial penalty, costs and surcharge for operating a motor vehicle on a highway or public area without valid insurance cover. Six penalty points were endorsed on his driving licence.

Derrick Williams, 49, from Maes Y Twr, Portskewett near Caldicot must pay £336 made up of a fine, costs and surcharge after confessing to careless driving. Four penalty points were added to his driving licence.

Linda Bennett, 69, of Pillmawr Road, Newport was directed to pay £288 comprising a financial penalty, costs and surcharge after acknowledging operating a motor vehicle on a road or public area without valid insurance. Her driving licence received six penalty point endorsements.

Leon Williams, 26, residing at St Marys Road, Pontllanfraith, Blackwood was ordered to pay a £220 fine plus £85 in costs together with back duty for maintaining a vehicle lacking a current licence.

Andrew James, of Attlee Avenue, Abertillery must pay £408 in a fine, costs and surcharge for keeping a motor vehicle that failed to satisfy insurance requirements.

Barrie Richards, 52, of Vinegar Hill, Undy, Monmouthshire was required to pay £428 including a financial penalty, costs and surcharge after pleading guilty to excess speed in a 50mph zone. Three penalty points were recorded on his driving history.
