Historic canal boat saved from scrapping thanks to company donation

Published on

A historic canal vessel serving the local community has been rescued from the scrapheap after receiving substantial corporate backing.

The trust responsible for maintaining a significant stretch of waterway had feared they would have to dispose of their fully accessible boat when finances fell short for essential equipment replacement.

An international energy technology firm based in the area contributed premium batteries valued at over ten thousand pounds, with the new power cells anticipated to extend the boat’s operational life by a minimum of ten years.

The facility’s supervisor noted the company’s deep commitment to the regional community, having established roots in the area for six and a half decades. Their contribution reflects dedication to preserving local traditions and nurturing expertise in maintaining the historic waterway’s heritage.

The batteries will guarantee the vessel’s continued service for years ahead. This adaptable craft provides inclusive trips and directs all revenue toward waterway conservation efforts. The organization also runs comprehensive training initiatives and educational schemes targeting students and tourists.

The trust’s chair explained that without this intervention, the boat faced almost certain decommissioning due to financial constraints preventing critical battery replacement. The substantial contribution will permit the resumption of journeys, granting residents and visitors access to the canal’s scenic and historical appeal.

Over the past four decades, the organization has been instrumental in revitalizing a significant portion of the waterway, spanning from its starting point to a key location in the town. The contributing company has maintained a local presence since the early 1960s and actively backs several community ventures, including environmental and sporting initiatives.
