The accused was operating a Ford Transit van when the impact occurred, Newport Magistrates’ Court heard.

The court imposed a 12-month community sentence alongside a requirement to complete 200 hours of voluntary labour.

Williams received a two-year driving ban and was instructed to pay a £114 levy together with £85 in court costs.
