How Many Deaths Will It Take to Demand Change?

In response to the South Wales Argus coverage of the Wyllie Bends close to Ynysddu, the current wire mesh and chain link fencing at that location lacks sufficient strength, raising concerns about the potential for additional incidents.

Several weeks prior, a useful discussion took place involving local residents, council members, and department officials. Cllr Reed, Cllr Jones, and myself participated, and we all expressed our backing for installing metal barriers as an extra precaution.

Highways officials committed to reviewing this suggestion and conducting further assessment, particularly since a formal notice of motion has been prepared for full council consideration once their findings are available.

I highlighted the barriers present on the stretch of road heading south from Usk toward Newport, questioning why comparable protection cannot be implemented within our county borough where similar metal barriers are already in place.

Safeguarding all road users at this location is essential. Prompt intervention is required at this site.
