A planning bid could see a bridal boutique open in the historic Market Hall building, which previously housed council facilities.
Monmouthshire County Council, the owner of the grade II-protected structure on Priory Street, has received a submission seeking approval to alter the use of the former Monmouth Market Hall premises.
The application documentation reveals the ground floor served as a council service point until 2022.
According to the paperwork, the bridal boutique would run from 10am to 5pm on weekdays and from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays, with one full-time and one part-time worker.
The public has until Tuesday, April 7 to register observations on the submission currently under review by the council’s planning section.
The paperwork suggests additional consent would probably be required for modifications to two windows, though every section indicating whether changes to the listed structure would occur has been marked no.
It also notes that parking spaces form part of the rear car park, though the field asking whether parking pertains to the scheme has been marked no.
In November 2024, members of Monmouthshire council’s cabinet were informed a tenancy arrangement had been secured for the Market Hall structure in Monmouth.
A change of use planning application was also anticipated to follow.
Subsequently that month, a planning submission to utilise the premises as an arts venue, incorporating a cafe/bar at ground level, was filed with the council’s planning section.
