Highway officials have confirmed significant hold-ups along the M4 motorway in the Newport area this afternoon.

The following stretches are currently affected:

The eastbound M4 carriageway near junction 33 at Capel Llanilltern off-slip is experiencing heavy traffic. The southbound A470 between Taffs Well and Coryton is also backed up. Westbound traffic on the M4 between junction 24 at Coldra and junction 26 at Malpas is moving very slowly. Additionally, the northbound A4232 from Culverhouse to junction 33 at Capel Llanilltern is congested.

The M4 corridor in Newport is currently experiencing considerable gridlock.
