A freshly launched fish and chip shop has welcomed its first customers this weekend, delighting those who flocked to Barry Island for a bite to eat.

The acclaimed Farnhams business launched operations beneath the Western Shelter on Saturday, March 21, expanding a rapidly expanding enterprise that already includes three other establishments in Cowbridge, Fontygary and Boverton.

Proprietor Dave Farnham is well-versed in this trade and in Barry, having previously run the beloved Fryer Tuck chip shop for seven years. Local residents are already familiar with his reputation and the standard of his offerings, which explains why their opening weekend drew larger crowds than anticipated.

The unexpected arrival of some spring sunshine provided ideal conditions for their inaugural patrons to savour some crispy battered fish, with the very first customer through the door being Lisa from Cheshire. As an avid follower of Gavin and Stacey, the company reports that Lisa expressed being absolutely delighted to return to the Island and to visit the establishment that the show’s characters would consider their regular haunt.

With guidance and support from other enterprises that have traded on the Island for years and fully understand the complexities of operating in such a bustling destination, Farnhams were prepared to serve both new and loyal customers with their freshly cooked, piping hot menu of options.

Owner Dave Farnham, aged 40, noted that the entire process of relocating into this space and commencing operations at a landmark seafront position has been tremendously exhilarating and that they have managed to add their own distinctive flair to the area, enhancing the flow for both patrons and employees.

He stated that he would often visit Barry Island during his childhood, and the location brings back cherished memories. He added that they simply could not turn down this opportunity, even though the timing proved somewhat challenging.

Farnhams has firmly established its presence further across the Vale with this fresh outlet, having launched their most recent branch just in December in Cowbridge.

The coming Easter break and summer season are set to bring particularly high demand, but one thing remains certain – Farnhams shows no signs of reducing their pace anytime soon.
