Burglary suspect traps himself in toilet as rail services disrupted by police

Rail services experienced disruption on Wednesday (March 26) after a man was taken into custody on a train at Newport Railway Station.

A witness informed the Argus that police officers boarded the service they were on, travelling from Severn Tunnel Junction to Newport Station, after a passenger had secured themselves inside the toilet cubicle and was refusing to pay their fare.

Travellers were instructed to exit the train and board an alternative service waiting at another platform to continue their trip towards Cardiff.

Gwent Police have verified that they detained a 33-year-old man on the train on suspicion of a robbery on Station Road in Caldicot at approximately 2.15pm on Thursday, March 26.

Before officers could reach the location, the offenders escaped and one of them boarded the rail service heading to Newport. Police subsequently apprehended this individual in Newport alongside another suspect, a 35-year-old man, in Caldicot.

A Gwent Police spokesperson stated that the force received notification of a robbery on Station Road in Caldicot at approximately 2.15pm on Thursday 26 March. Prior to police attendance, the offenders fled the location and one boarded the train heading to Newport. Officers arrested a 33-year-old man on the train on suspicion of robbery. A 35-year-old man was also arrested in Caldicot on suspicion of robbery. Both individuals remain in police custody at this time.
