Gwent Police seize eight uninsured vehicles in one-day operation

Gwent Police’s Roads Policing team worked alongside the Motor Insurers’ Bureau on Wednesday, October 21, in an operation focused on identifying vehicles being driven without insurance.

Checks were conducted as officers continued their regular daily patrols.

Eight vehicles were seized by the end of the operation, while the drivers responsible were referred for prosecution.

The police said that driving without insurance creates risks for other lawful road users, particularly when collisions occur.

Gwent Police’s Roads Policing and Dog Section also stated that collisions involving uninsured drivers can cause serious hardship for innocent people.

Insurance is a legal requirement throughout the UK.

Offenders may receive a £300 fixed penalty, six penalty points and have their vehicle seized.

Cases brought before a court can result in an unlimited fine or a driving ban.

Police also have the power to destroy uninsured vehicles in certain circumstances.

Gwent Police said the operation would form part of continued efforts to identify and target people who drive without insurance in order to protect all road users.
