Celtic Manor Resort Secures Refinancing Deal with NatWest and Barclays

Published on

Hugh James, a law firm based in Wales, has provided advisory services to The Celtic Manor Resort Limited in connection with a strategic refinancing arrangement.

The transaction involved replacing the resort’s current lending facilities with a fresh financing package arranged by NatWest and Barclays.

This new financial structure is intended to support continued growth and facilitate reinvestment into the resort’s facilities and services.

The legal practice handled all aspects of the transaction, managing the banking, property and corporate components of the deal.

The complexity of The Celtic Manor Resort Limited’s property portfolio necessitated effective collaboration between multiple specialist divisions within Hugh James.

The assignment was overseen by Dominic Marshall, a partner in the Banking and Finance department.

He was assisted by David Marshall from the Real Estate Finance team, alongside Yuliia Kucherenko, David Penwarden and Matt Detheridge.

The resort and its associated International Convention Centre Wales secured recognition earlier in the year at the 2026 M&IT Awards, where Celtic Manor received the designation of Best UK Hotel.

The Celtic Collection, the group operating the resort, also achieved Hotel Group of the Year status at the AA Hospitality Awards for 2026-27.

Speaking about the engagement, Dominic Marshall noted that The Celtic Manor Resort ranks among the United Kingdom’s most prominent hospitality and leisure destinations, and expressed satisfaction at having helped the business navigate this significant refinancing process.

He explained that the firm had developed a relationship with The Celtic Manor over numerous years, and this transaction demonstrated the durability of that partnership.

Mark Colcomb, Vice President of Finance and Support at The Celtic Manor Resort Limited, described the refinancing as a significant development for the business as it pursues continued investment, investigates expansion possibilities and maintains high standards of Welsh hospitality across its various venues.

He indicated that the resort was delighted to have collaborated with Hugh James, crediting the firm’s cooperative methodology and thorough knowledge of the business for enabling a smooth completion of the refinancing process.
