A Wrexham business has collected more than £3,500 for a cancer charity at an event attended by a legendary rugby figure.
Connectus Business Solutions hosted the fundraiser at Hotel Wrexham, welcoming 62 guests to support Prostate Cancer UK.
The gathering marked a significant milestone for the organiser, bringing together supporters around a meaningful cause.
Former Scotland international and British & Irish Lions mentor Sir Ian McGeechan served as the special guest at the occasion.
Twelve months earlier, Sir Ian had publicly revealed he had received confirmation of his recovery following his own diagnosis and subsequent medical intervention.
At the event, he addressed the audience about his personal journey and stressed the necessity of ensuring more men prioritise their wellbeing and seek appropriate medical guidance.
His address drew upon anecdotes from his time in professional rugby.
The evening featured several fundraising activities, including an auction of sporting collectibles, with all proceeds directed to the national charity.
Sir Ian contributed an exclusive item to the sale: a limited-edition A4 signed illustration depicting Fran Cotton, Martin Johnson CBE and himself, created to commemorate the 1997 British & Irish Lions victory tour of South Africa.
The production run was restricted to just 300 copies.
Roy Shelton, chief executive of Connectus Business Solutions, acknowledged the successful outcome of the occasion and thanked the assembled guests for their generosity.
Special recognition was extended to Sir Ian for his willingness to participate in an interview and contribute the distinctive memorabilia to assist the charitable effort.
The formal dinner served to attendees featured classic British cuisine.
Several commercial partners supported the initiative, including Elavade, Heimdal, Glu Digital, Magnify PR and Dropjaw Ventures.
Hotel Wrexham co-owner Steven Hesketh, who also established the Savvy Collective group, expressed pleasure at accommodating the gathering and contributing to the fundraising objectives.
The total sum of £3,520 will be allocated in its entirety to Prostate Cancer UK, funding the organisation’s ongoing work to enhance diagnostic procedures, therapeutic options and prognoses for men confronting the condition.
