Representatives from community organisations, public authorities and support services across North Wales gathered on 13 October to observe National Hate Crime Awareness Week.

The conference, titled All for One 26: Standing Together Against Hate, took place at the Conwy Business Centre in Llandudno Junction and was convened by Andy Dunbobbin, who serves as Police and Crime Commissioner for the North Wales region.

Deputy First Minister Sioned Williams MS delivered an opening video message to participants.

According to her remarks, the Welsh Government maintains an unwavering commitment to improving hate crime reporting mechanisms and ensuring victims receive appropriate assistance throughout Wales.

She outlined that collective action is required to dismantle obstacles preventing individuals from reporting incidents.

The Deputy First Minister emphasised the importance of empowering witnesses to assist those targeted by hate-fuelled behaviour and stated that the criminal justice system must demonstrate efficiency in building public confidence.

She added that society must recognise that harm directed at any individual constitutes an attack on everyone.

Andy Dunbobbin addressed the assembled delegates regarding the devastating effects hate-fuelled behaviour can have on both victims and the wider community.

He advocated for ongoing partnership between statutory agencies, local communities and service providers to enhance safety throughout the region.

Among those contributing to proceedings were Becca Rosenthal from the Wales Hate Support Centre, Llinos Davies who holds the position of Corporate Services Superintendent with North Wales Police, Tim Entwistle serving as Community Cohesion Coordinator for North-West Wales, Emily Reddy who operates as Regional Community Cohesion Coordinator for North-East Wales, and Ryan Colamazza who works as Senior Crown Prosecutor for Wales.

In his closing remarks, the Commissioner stated that the annual awareness period serves as a vital opportunity to reinforce that intolerance has no place within North Wales.

He declared that all residents merit feeling secure, appreciated and respected irrespective of their ethnicity, faith, disability, sexuality, gender identity or any other personal characteristic.

He issued an invitation for anyone experiencing or observing hate crime to come forward and report it.

He concluded by affirming that collaborative efforts involving North Wales Police, partner organisations and local residents can effectively confront discriminatory attitudes, provide assistance to those harmed and demonstrate that hostile behaviour will not be accepted within the area.
