An accord has been struck between the Welsh administration and Welsh Labour regarding increased allocation for Additional Learning Needs provisions, clearing the path for the 2026-27 Supplementary Budget to be presented to the Senedd.
The financial plan outlines the investment framework initially announced in June, incorporating an extra £60 million dedicated to Additional Learning Needs for the current fiscal period.
The proposal is scheduled for tabling on Tuesday 13 October, with parliamentary consideration set for Tuesday 3 November.
The First Minister stated that the arrangement demonstrates what collaborative efforts across the Senedd can accomplish, providing access to an additional £60 million for Additional Learning Needs while enabling the advancement of a Supplementary Budget that maintains commitments to the health service, childcare provision and complimentary school meals.
The Welsh Labour Leader indicated satisfaction at obtaining the supplementary £60 million allocation for Additional Learning Needs this year, noting that the funding would significantly benefit educational establishments throughout Wales and should now translate into practical outcomes for the children and young people who require support.
The development was described as an encouraging initial move toward improved educational financing and securing optimal arrangements for young people across Wales.
