A 12-year-old child sustained injuries after an object was reportedly thrown from a bridge in Newport.

The boy was with companions beside the river at approximately 6.30pm when teenagers allegedly dropped large stones from above.

The child, Blake O’Shea, was struck on the rear of his skull by one of the rocks, rendering him unconscious, according to his mother.

The impact caused a head wound requiring medical attention.

The family stated that the group of children had merely been gathering in the area when the incident occurred.

Blake was subsequently able to return home and his condition was described as stable, though family members reported being left distressed and angry by the severity of what transpired.

Support was offered to those who assisted the child following the incident.

His mother expressed gratitude to the companions who were present with Blake at the time.

The family is now seeking details regarding three male youths, estimated to be between 15 and 16 years of age, who were reportedly observed departing the scene.

Information provided indicates one individual was wearing spectacles and a balaclava.

A green and purple Sur-Ron electric bicycle was also reportedly seen in the area.

Appeals have been made for anyone with relevant information or who recognises the descriptions provided to contact authorities.

The incident has proven particularly distressing for the family due to Blake’s existing medical history.

The child experienced a stroke approximately six years ago.

Family members described him as a resilient youngster who has maintained a positive outlook despite past health challenges.

He was noted to continue spreading joy and recently performed publicly at his school.

Community members have expressed solidarity with Blake, offering wishes for his recovery while condemning the reported behaviour.

Gwent Police have been contacted regarding the matter.

Individuals possessing information about the incident are encouraged to contact the force via the 101 telephone number, through the official website, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
