Residents of Newport should prepare for another bout of summery conditions arriving early next week, with the mercury set to reach approximately 30C.

Following a mild weekend, weather experts indicate the city will experience consecutive days of intense sunshine and elevated temperatures, bringing a distinctly summery feel back to the Gwent area.

The Met Office’s current prediction for Newport shows daytime temperatures rising from the low-to-mid 20s at the beginning of the week, reaching 28C by Tuesday and Wednesday.

By Thursday and Friday, the thermometer is forecast to hit roughly 30–31C, accompanied by muggy overnight periods that may stay in the high teens.

This represents a significant departure from Newport’s typical July daytime average, which usually hovers nearer to 20C.

The warm period follows June’s extraordinary heatwave, when sections of Wales were placed under amber and red extreme heat alerts and temperatures climbed into the low-to-mid 30s.

Meteorological specialists at the Met Office have cautioned that these prolonged stretches of extreme heat are occurring with greater regularity as global temperatures rise, particularly across southern regions.

Alongside the warmth, pollen concentrations are anticipated to remain elevated throughout most of Wales heading into next week, potentially causing difficulties for those affected by hay fever.

Individuals with breathing ailments, elderly community members and small children are being advised to exercise heightened caution during the warmest hours, including maintaining adequate fluid intake, finding cooler shaded spots and keeping homes as comfortable as possible.

For many, the reappearance of 30C sunshine will come as positive news coinciding with the start of the school summer break, with outdoor spaces, coastal areas and pub gardens expected to fill up once more.

However, public health professionals emphasise that the dangers associated with extended heat exposure should not be dismissed, particularly given last month’s unprecedented temperatures, and are encouraging residents to reach out to elderly or vulnerable friends and neighbours.

Last month, the United Kingdom experienced its warmest June on record, with portions of Wales enduring particularly severe conditions.
