A collection of works by Sir Kyffin Williams is currently displaying at the Riverside Gallery in Haverfordwest through 3 April 2027.
The exhibition, titled Face to Face, showcases the portraiture side of an artist predominantly recognised for his sweeping landscapes.
Throughout his artistic life, Williams depicted individuals from all walks of life, and this display brings together numerous examples of his work in this genre.
Among the pieces exhibited are representations of significant figures from Welsh history and several self-portraits created at various career stages.
The final self-portrait the artist completed before passing away forms part of the collection.
Visitors will also discover drawings on paper and historic film recordings where Williams discusses his methods and philosophy regarding portrait painting.
Mari Elin Jones, who serves as Interpretation Officer at the National Library of Wales, commented that audiences often associate Williams primarily with landscape work, yet portraiture remained a consistent thread throughout his career.
She noted that gathering these pieces together demonstrates the depth of his curiosity about human subjects and his ability to capture personality and feeling in facial features.
The permanent display Pembrokeshire: Past and Present runs concurrently at the venue, examining the heritage, traditions and geography of the county.
Fresh acquisitions will be featured during the current season.
The temporary exhibition marks the opening of commemorations honouring two decades since the artist’s passing.
An interactive offering called The Profiad Kyffin Experience will launch at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth on 18 November.
This complimentary half-hour presentation merges modern visual technology with original artwork and items from Williams’s personal archive.
Advance tickets become available from 2 November.
The Gregynog Gallery at the same institution will stage a dedicated Williams exhibition in May 2027.
This will represent the first major showcase of his work at that venue since the centenary commemorations held in 2018.
