Caerphilly County Borough Council is proceeding with a restructure of its executive leadership following two recent departures.
The authority will eliminate one Cabinet Member position while simultaneously establishing a dedicated portfolio for Waste and Recycling under a newly appointed councillor.
Council Leader Cllr Jamie Pritchard revealed the organisational adjustments, which the local authority stated would generate additional financial savings.
The Cabinet vacancies arose from the resignation of Cllr Chris Morgan and the passing of Cllr Nigel George, whom the council described as a significant loss.
Under the revised structure, existing Cabinet Members will assume expanded responsibilities.
Deputy Leader Cllr Shayne Cook will incorporate Leisure duties into his current role, while Cllr Amanda McConnell assumes oversight of Green Spaces.
Cllr Adrian Hussey joins the executive as the holder of the newly created standalone Waste and Recycling portfolio.
Cllr Pritchard welcomed the new appointment and expressed anticipation for collaborative work.
The creation of a separate Waste and Recycling portfolio aligns with the council’s planned transition to processing facilities at Dyffryn Business Park.
According to the Leader, the modifications aim to establish a more sustainable and efficient service for local residents, enabling local material processing and improving overall effectiveness.
The restructuring will see a reduction in Cabinet posts, a measure Cllr Pritchard attributed to the council’s difficult financial circumstances.
Resources saved through this reduction will be redirected toward essential council services benefiting the local population.
Cllr Hussey accepted the appointment with evident satisfaction, citing his existing involvement in cross-party waste discussions as providing valuable expertise for the role.
The councillor indicated eagerness to commence duties in the position.
