A set of six curated travel routes has been introduced by the tourism department serving Neath Port Talbot to assist tourists organising brief stays in the region marketed as the Dramatic Heart of Wales.
These pre-planned pathways consolidate attractions, pursuits, lodging options and culinary venues into comprehensive journeys.
The collection encompasses road cycling, off-road cycling, family expeditions, canine-welcoming adventures, women’s escapes and spine-chilling heritage tours.
The cycling route spans two days, commencing at Aberavon Seafront before progressing through the Afan Valley in the direction of Waterfall Country.
The mountain biking option centers on Afan Forest Park and identifies locations where cyclists can obtain equipment rental, maintenance services and sustenance.
The family-oriented adventure incorporates the restored Gnoll Country Park, Margam Country Park and Aberavon Beach across a recommended two-night visit.
The pet-welcoming itinerary targets holidaymakers wishing to travel alongside their animals, reflecting heightened demand for pet-inclusive breaks observed in 2026.
An additional option blends al fresco pursuits with rest and recuperation for friendship groups, while the concluding route targets those interested in macabre tourism and supernatural encounters.
Councillor Cen Phillips, whose portfolio includes Culture, Tourism and Wellbeing, noted that visitor interest in the Dramatic Heart of Wales had grown substantially over recent years.
The region distinguishes itself through the diversity of experiences accessible within a short timeframe.
The freshly devised routes streamline trip planning by accommodating individual preferences, whether visitors seek challenging terrain on two wheels, companionship with canine companions, quality time with relatives, bespoke experiences for women’s groups or exploration of the locale’s more peculiar historical narratives.
While each route possesses its own distinct character, collectively they reveal the remarkable diversity that defines this corner of Wales, all within convenient proximity to transportation hubs.
The itineraries can be accessed via the Dramatic Heart of Wales digital platform.
Financial backing for the initiative stems from the Welsh Government via the UK Local Growth Fund programme.
