Grants totalling £8.27 million have been distributed to renewable energy initiatives throughout Wales, with allocations intended to lower domestic electricity costs and facilitate the phase-out of diesel-powered generators at outdoor events and television productions.
The funding has been divided among 24 recipients spanning community associations, commercial enterprises, charitable foundations, educational institutions and health authorities.
The distribution was administered through the Welsh Government’s Ynni Cymru initiative.
In Powys, the community-owned Llanidloes District Energy Local Club secured £597,210 to install photovoltaic arrays, energy storage facilities and electric vehicle recharging infrastructure.
Residents participating in the programme expect annual savings of approximately £368 through increased consumption of locally-produced electricity and reduced purchases from the national network.
The initiative is projected to yield roughly £14,000 annually for local community facilities and programming.
Within Pembrokeshire, Renewable Power Pembrokeshire received £94,225 to establish localised electricity generation enabling adjacent commercial premises and community structures to maximise utilisation of renewable output.
One participating enterprise, Snow White Laundry, projects yearly energy expenditure reductions ranging from £40,000 to £60,000.
The initiative employs an intelligent local energy network connecting power producers with consuming establishments.
Afanti Media, headquartered in Cardiff, obtained £668,558 to broaden deployment of battery technology at entertainment festivals, cultural gatherings and televised live productions throughout Wales.
The investment will facilitate battery-powered solutions at additional occasions, diminishing reliance on diesel generation while decreasing acoustic disturbance and atmospheric emissions.
Afanti Media intends to expand deployment to smaller community festivals alongside major broadcasts and sporting fixtures.
Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy Adam Price stated that these initiatives demonstrate how renewable energy provides tangible advantages for individuals and neighbourhoods across Wales, from assisting enterprises and households in reducing energy expenditure to supporting cleaner events.
He noted that Ynni Cymru is realising the Welsh Government’s ambition for greener, more affordable energy generated and consumed by Welsh people and communities.
The scheme commenced operations in 2023 to assist communities, businesses and public sector bodies in producing and consuming their own sustainable energy.
More than 80 initiatives have received support, with the recent allocations bringing cumulative investment to exceed £31 million.
