Monnow Way Newport resurfacing: phased overnight closures October 19-28

Published on

A major road improvement initiative is underway in Newport, with attention turning to Monnow Way as the next priority area under the local authority’s infrastructure renewal programme.

The works will be conducted overnight between 8pm and 5am to limit the impact on daytime traffic.

Crews will begin operations on Monday, October 19, with a series of phased closures scheduled throughout the month.

Phase one concentrates on the Brookside to Helford Square corridor, requiring road closures on October 19 and 20.

Access to Tone Close will be restricted for vehicles during this period, though some limited provisions may apply.

The same stretch will face closure again on October 21 between 8pm and 5am, with vehicle entry to Tone Close prohibited.

Footpaths will remain accessible throughout the works.

Attention will then shift to Welland Crescent and Darent Close on October 22 and 23.

Those travelling by vehicle should note that Derwent Court and Frome Walk will be inaccessible during the overnight closures on those dates.

The programme continues with work between Lodden Close and Humber Road scheduled for October 27 and 28.

The car park situated across from Yeo Road will be unavailable to vehicles during these nights.

Further resurfacing operations are earmarked for October 29 through November 4, with work suspended over the weekends.

These final phases will address the section running from Avon Close to Tamar Close, alongside the Monnow Way and Bettws Lane roundabout area, extending westward toward Bettws Hill and northward to the Malpas Brook bridge.

Finalised traffic management arrangements for these stages are yet to be announced.

The local authority has acknowledged that residents should anticipate noise and dust throughout the programme, though measures will be implemented to reduce inconvenience where possible.

Public transport users may experience alterations to bus routes and should verify service information with their operator.

Drivers navigating this corridor during the works period have been encouraged to factor additional travel time into their journeys.
