Gwent Police warn illegal poaching will not be ignored after meeting with councillor

Published on

A warning has been issued by authorities regarding illegal poaching activities in Gwent, following discussions between law enforcement representatives and local elected officials.

The meeting took place between a police community support officer and a town councillor who serves as deputy mayor of the Magor and Undy area.

The encounter occurred recently to address growing concerns about poaching and its effects on local residents.

According to a statement from the force, poaching activities have been identified as having considerable consequences for communities, agricultural workers, and wildlife populations throughout rural areas.

The statement emphasised that such activities can result in injury to animals, destruction of property, anxiety among neighbourhood residents, and disruption to the efforts of those maintaining and preserving the countryside.

Authorities indicated their determination to pursue those engaged in illegal poaching.

The statement noted that reports of poaching would be examined thoroughly, with relevant enforcement measures implemented when violations are confirmed.

Partnership efforts will continue with rural communities, property owners, and collaborating organisations to address this issue, safeguard the natural environment, and ensure accountability for those responsible.

Residents with knowledge of suspected poaching incidents or information that could support inquiries have been encouraged to contact Gwent Police.

Contact options include the 101 telephone number or the force’s online reporting platform.

For emergencies where criminal activity is occurring or individuals face immediate risk, the emergency 999 number should be used.
