A service manager from Cwmbran has been named among the finalists at this year’s Wales Care Awards following recognition of her commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals.
Lyndsey Rudd, who has overseen operations at Penywaun since 2023, is a contender for the Excellence in Mental Health and Wellbeing prize at the event scheduled for October 16.
Her dedication stems from the meaningful impact she witnesses in the lives of those under her care.
One person supported at Penywaun Bungalow had endured more than two decades of mental health difficulties, alcohol-related issues, and recurring hospital stays before moving to the facility three years ago.
Under Ms Rudd’s guidance, this individual has maintained sobriety, adhered to treatment plans, finished an internet-based educational programme, established a regular fitness routine, and most recently enrolled in college-level studies delivered in person.
The nominee expressed that the variety and purpose inherent in the work provide continuous motivation.
A frequently repeated sentiment guides her approach: finding genuine enjoyment in one’s occupation means work never feels like labour.
The Wales Care Awards, established by Care Forum Wales in 2006, honour outstanding practice across the care industry.
Care Forum Wales chief executive Melanie Minty emphasised that the sector relies upon its workforce’s skill and empathy to fulfil its mission, with staff consistently delivering vital support marked by respect and humanity.
She acknowledged the tens of thousands employed throughout Wales whose efforts sustain both individuals and the broader health system.
Head judge Mathew Jones described the awards as an opportunity to highlight those whose tireless efforts frequently go unrecognised, stating that celebrating such dedication brings considerable satisfaction.
The ceremony will take place at the Holland House Hotel in Cardiff, gathering professionals and advocates from across the country as winners are revealed.
