A historic place of worship designated Grade II in Aberdare changed hands at auction after attracting significant interest.
The Ebenezer Chapel property on Ebenezer Street, originally constructed in 1811 and reconstructed in 1859, had space for 900 congregation members.
The venue, which ceased operating as a religious establishment around 2009, fetched £45,000 through Paul Fosh Auctions despite initially being advertised at just £1.
The standalone building, where restoration efforts have already commenced, had previously been proposed for transformation into residential apartments.
According to Sean Roper from the auctioneers, pre-sale enquiries proved exceptionally strong.
A total of 123 online bids were placed by seven determined potential purchasers before the property was secured for £45,000.
The sizeable former chapel includes a single garage among its features and occupies a desirable position in Trecynon, Aberdare.
Former planning consent existed for dividing the space into five separate flats, though this permission has since expired.
Future possibilities for alternative residential, commercial or community purposes such as a nursery or training facility could be explored, subject to securing fresh planning approval.
The listed structure contains accommodation across two floors and sits within a generous plot that has become somewhat overgrown.
The site extends to roughly 0.23 acres and is situated among established residential properties.
Additional elements include a front forecourt, side and rear land, a disused burial ground and an unattached garage at the rear.
Aberdare town centre lies approximately half a mile distant, while Aberdare Park with its comprehensive shopping facilities, services and railway connections can be reached within a short walk.
The chapel was last utilised for worship in approximately 2009.
