Construction of two new educational facilities in the Vale of Glamorgan has reached a significant milestone with the completion of the main structural frameworks.
The Barry Waterfront Campus and the Advanced Technology Centre have both been built to their highest point, marking a crucial stage in the £119 million development.
The ceremony took place at the Advanced Technology Centre location, which stands near Cardiff Airport.
Senior figures from Cardiff and Vale College, WEPCo and the Welsh Government attended the event, with representatives from developer Bouygues UK conducting tours of the construction area.
Two engineering students currently studying at Cardiff and Vale College were also present during the visit, and they will form part of the inaugural student body when the site becomes operational in September 2027.
The Advanced Technology Centre is positioned next to the college’s International Centre for Aerospace Training.
This facility will deliver training programmes designed to address skill shortages among local employers, apprentices and professionals working in cutting-edge technology sectors, while also contributing to Wales’s environmental objectives.
Meanwhile, the Barry Waterfront Campus will provide learning opportunities and training for both younger and older residents seeking to acquire new abilities or advance their professional prospects.
Both sites are scheduled to open their doors during the summer of 2027.
Upon completion, they will represent Wales’s inaugural carbon-neutral further education project, developed through the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme.
