La Liste has published its 2026 World’s Best Restaurants ranking, with two establishments in South Wales securing places among the global top 1,000.

The annual compilation aggregates data from thousands of publications and millions of online customer reviews to identify the finest dining destinations worldwide.

Five Welsh restaurants featured on this year’s list, spanning locations from Machynlleth to Penarth.

Among them were Ynyshir in Machynlleth, Annwn in Narberth, The Whitebrook in Monmouthshire, Sosban and the Old Butchers on Menai Bridge, and Home by James Sommerin in Penarth.

The Whitebrook, situated in a rural area just outside Monmouth close to the border between Wales and England, earned a La Liste score of 82.5.

The establishment holds one Michelin star alongside a Michelin Green Star and four AA Rosettes.

Its website indicates regular inclusion among the United Kingdom’s top 50 restaurants.

The Michelin Guide describes the venue as exemplifying what a destination restaurant should be, highlighting its secluded woodland setting, nature-inspired décor featuring earthy colour schemes and wooden flooring.

Ingredients originate from the Wye Valley and the restaurant’s own kitchen garden, forming the basis of botanically-inspired dishes that emphasise natural flavours.

Customer reviews on Tripadvisor show a rating of 4.6 out of 5 based on 582 assessments.

Home by James Sommerin, located at 1 Royal Buildings in Penarth, achieved a La Liste score of 77.5.

The venue offers an intimate dining experience characterised by an immersive yet welcoming atmosphere.

James Sommerin and his daughter Georgia operate the open kitchen together, with the restaurant employing predominantly family members.

The interior design and menu remain undisclosed to guests in advance.

Diners gain entry by ringing a bell, and windows remain covered by curtains.

Each table features a sealed envelope containing the tasting menu, which guests may open immediately or keep as a surprise.

SquareMeal notes that the menu updates regularly and showcases produce sourced from nearby suppliers.

Tripadvisor records indicate a rating of 4.7 out of 5 from 111 reviews.
