North Wales Police officers targeted young road users in a road safety operation at a commercial centre, confiscating 12 vehicles and issuing 15 fixed penalty notices.

The Roads Crime Unit responded to complaints about persistent anti-social behaviour involving young drivers at Broughton Retail Park on Friday.

Officers addressed traffic violations such as excessive speed and mobile phone use at the wheel, attended a collision resulting in property damage only, and took one motorist into custody on suspicion of drink-driving.

The enforcement activity formed part of a wider initiative combining road safety guidance with action against road users creating danger for themselves and others.

During the broader campaign, a man aged 25 was apprehended twice on suspicion of drug-driving after returning to his vehicle despite police warnings.

He was initially stopped in Bangor just after midnight on September 26 and returned positive results for cannabis and cocaine during roadside screening.

Officers released him under investigation while awaiting more detailed test outcomes.

He was subsequently found behind the wheel again and intercepted while travelling eastbound along the A55 heading towards his residence in Shotton, Flintshire.

A second positive roadside test led to his second arrest.

In another matter, an 18-year-old female driver was reported for operating a motor vehicle without insurance after colliding with another car at Broughton Shopping Park shortly after 21:00 on September 24.

Her vehicle was impounded.

Officers also detected a young motorist travelling at 82 miles per hour in an area limited to 60 miles per hour, and an electric scooter was seized in Caernarfon on September 28.

The team visited other sites frequented by young drivers, including Mostyn Champneys Retail Park in Llandudno.

Sergeant Simon Hughes, who coordinated the activity, stated that most young people comply with road traffic regulations, but enforcement action would be taken where behaviour endangers drivers, passengers or other road users.

He confirmed officers would maintain patrols following the campaign and called on parents and guardians to reinforce road safety messages.

Concerns regarding anti-social driving behaviour can be reported via the North Wales Police website or by contacting the 101 non-emergency number, with emergencies requiring a 999 call.
