Gwynedd drug dealer Arthur Hughes ordered to pay £82,401 at court

A pensioner from Gwynedd has been compelled to surrender more than £82,000 in illicit funds and assets acquired through criminal activity.

Arthur Hughes, aged 75 and residing in Rachub, is presently completing a prison term of three years and two months after receiving his sentence in June for possessing heroin with intent to supply and holding criminal property.

At a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing conducted at Caernarfon Crown Court on 12 October, the full extent of Hughes’ criminal enterprise was calculated to exceed £151,730.

The court mandated the seizure of £82,401 comprising cash and assets that had been confiscated by officers.

Controlled substances and related equipment recovered during a search operation conducted at Hughes’ property were also directed to be eliminated.

The confiscation order follows his conviction secured earlier in the year and represents continued activity aimed at ensuring that individuals engaged in drug trafficking cannot retain financial benefits from their illegal operations.

Police Constable Jacob Swift commented that officers persist in targeting those who attempt to generate profits through drug supply and will continue employing all available legal mechanisms to remove any assets obtained through criminal conduct.
