Wagamama introduces same-day table bookings after 34 years of walk-in only service

The pan-Asian restaurant chain wagamama has introduced advance table reservations across its UK venues for the first time since its founding.

Diners can now secure a same-day booking at any location regardless of group size, marking a significant departure from the walk-in-only model that has defined the brand since it first launched in Bloomsbury, London, in 1992.

For more than three decades, customers were required to join queues and wait for available spots at the chain’s signature communal seating areas.

Following an extended trial period and analysis of customer feedback, the company has now implemented a comprehensive booking system to accommodate advance reservations and same-day requests for both regular meals and special occasions.

Larger parties of 20 or more guests can arrange visits by getting in touch directly with their preferred restaurant.

Reservations are accessible through OpenTable, the official wagamama website, the Soul Club mobile application, and by telephone for groups exceeding 20 people.

Patrons can choose their desired location, date, time slot and party size to check availability.

To celebrate the rollout of the new reservation capability, the company is providing a complimentary glass of prosecco to guests who complete a booking by 15 October for dining experiences scheduled between 18 November and 5 January.

This promotional offer applies at participating establishments throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, subject to standard terms and conditions.

The booking launch coincides with the opening of reservations for the chain’s seasonal festive set menu, which carries price points of £23 for two courses or £28 for three courses.

The seasonal offering includes the return of the cranberry katsu dish alongside newly created items available exclusively during this period, in addition to a curated selection of perennial customer favourites.

The standard main menu continues to be served.

Chief marketing officer Claire Farrant commented that the introduction of same-day bookings for groups of any size represents a notable milestone for the brand after 34 years of operation.

She emphasised that the company has historically been characterised by its open-door approach to hospitality, and described the change as reflecting contemporary dining preferences while preserving the fundamental elements that distinguish the wagamama experience.

The marketing chief noted that the move aligns with the brand’s commitment to kaizen, the Japanese business philosophy advocating continuous improvement and positive transformation.
