A 24-year-old man from Newport has been placed on remand after entering guilty pleas to drug-related charges.

Liam Cogdell, residing at Cormorant Way in Duffryn, appeared before Newport magistrates’ court where he admitted to possessing both class A and class B controlled substances with the intention of supplying them.

The defendant additionally entered a guilty plea to a charge of obstructing a police officer who was acting in the execution of their duties.

The offences occurred on October 2.

A pre-sentence report was requested by the court and the matter has been referred to the crown court for sentencing at a later date, with a hearing scheduled for November 9.

District Judge Sophie Toms ordered that Cogdell remain in custody pending his next court appearance.
