Pill Carnival will return to Newport on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31, with music, entertainment and celebrations in Pillgwenlly.

The long-running community event will begin at 2pm at the Dock Gates. Its parade will then travel along Commercial Road through Pill.

Decorated floats, dancers, musicians and community groups will take part in the street parade. Live entertainment, food stalls and family activities will follow.

Organisers say the carnival aims to bring the community together while celebrating Pill’s cultural diversity and local talent. They are hoping for a strong turnout.

The event has deep roots in Newport and is an important part of Pillgwenlly’s identity. The neighbourhood developed around Newport Docks in the 19th century and has long been home to people who came from around the world to work in maritime industries.

Residents and visitors attend the carnival for its display of culture and community spirit. This year’s event continues that established local tradition.
