The Swansea College of Art, part of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, staged its annual Graphic Design (BA Hons) Design Week 2026 event.

The seven-day timetable included industry-focused talks, practical workshops, projects backed by commercial clients and collaborative tasks, all intended to provide students with real-world experience of contemporary design sector practices.

Donna Williams, head of the graphic design department, explained her belief that cultivating the appropriate educational setting carries significant weight.

She noted that when spaces are deliberately crafted to feel safe, welcoming and genuinely inclusive in both principle and practice, they can unlock remarkable creative potential.

She expressed that this represents something everyone involved can feel privileged to participate in.

This year’s visual identity was designed by second-year learner Martha Stephens and featured across all event materials and promotional content.

The curriculum commenced with a live brief from Sky, building on an established collaboration between the college and the company.

Tavian James, Bethany Martin, Jack Clements and Joe Nash will present their work at Sky Creative’s London offices.

Lowri Bowen, a second-year student, shared that Design Week proved both pleasurable and challenging while offering considerable value.

She observed that tackling genuine industry challenges allowed participants to collaborate with new team members, refine their design skills under time constraints and gain insight into what professional design work might entail following graduation.

She added that receiving useful and constructive input from working professionals enhanced her confidence and made her career aspirations feel attainable.

Attendees also took part in a typography initiative led by type producer and design studio Foundry 37, with design director Duncan Gravestock providing supervision.

Lowri James, Jack Lewis, Lewys Davies, Tavian James and Gracie Cant-Bull were announced as the winners.

The week concluded with final presentations, exhibitions and the Ask Any Lecturer open forum, enabling students to seek advice and discuss their developing work with teaching staff.
