Recent magistrates court cases have concluded.
Ibrahim Younis, aged 26 and living in Potter Street, Newport, entered guilty pleas to obstructing an officer during their duties and riding an electric scooter along Capel Crescent without appropriate insurance on October 12 the year before. The court issued penalties and fees amounting to £285 and disqualified him from driving for half a year.
Ben Jones, 25, with no fixed abode in Tredegar, was found guilty at trial of having a bladed article in a public place on Park View on August 31 the previous year. He received a 12-month community order, was mandated to perform 60 hours of unpaid work, and paid a £114 victim surcharge.
Christopher Hall, 44, from Heol Serth, Abertridwr, Caerphilly, confessed to assault occasioning actual bodily harm on April 29 the previous year. He received a 12-month community order, was ordered to complete 140 hours of unpaid work, ordered to pay £500 in compensation plus a £114 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.
Kurt Young, 28, of Brace Avenue, Abertillery, admitted to refusing to provide a breath sample while in charge of a motor vehicle in Aberbargoed on March 21. He was ordered to pay £785 in fines, costs and surcharges, and had 10 penalty points added to his driving record.
Ethan Pretlove, 28, from Baldwin Street, Newport, admitted to driving while over the legal alcohol limit after registering 67 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath on Chepstow Road on April 2. He received an 18-month driving disqualification, a £450 fine, and was ordered to pay £85 costs.
Gary Matthews, 38, of High Street, Brynmawr, admitted to damaging a Gwent Police Ford Transit van and committing a public order offence against Sergeant Daniel Wise in Ebbw Vale on April 21. He received a 12-month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £85 costs.
Rhian Williams, 34, of Clos Y Fran, Llantarnam, Cwmbran, was found guilty at trial of using a handheld mobile phone while driving on the A4042 in Newport on September 3, 2025. She was ordered to pay £318 in fines, costs and surcharges, and had six penalty points added to her driving licence.
